Started way back in 1950, the Lady Nye Primary School is one of the first educational initiatives of the Guild of Service. It was started with the objective of educating destitute and orphaned children, and is housed at the GOS Seva Samajam Children’s Home on the same campus. It gradually added classes and now goes up to the Higher Secondary level.
Today, Lady Nye Special Primary and Higher Secondary School provides education to the children of the GOS Seva Samajam Children’s Home as well as children from the local community. The school focuses on providing a holistic learning experience for these children. We have a full-fledged computer lab, library, smart class and robotics lab. It is a top priority for us to provide quality academic education, while also providing a fun and creatively engaging environment for our students. The school strives to give maximum exposure in the fields of academics, sports and fitness, art and culture. The medium of education is Tamil.
The School has dedicated rooms for music, art & craft and robotics. The Smart classrooms make the classes come alive for the students. There is a special educator at the school for slow learners and such children are given special attention.
Apart from the regular school education, we provide:
The operations and expenses of the functioning of the school has always been supported by our donors and patrons.
The School also supports the College education of several of our students who are unable to afford the college fees.
B.Elango. studied at Lady Nye Hr. Sec School from Class 1 to 12. He came from a poor family and his parents used to sell flowers. It was a big struggle at home and most days there was no food to eat.
He recalls that during the lunch break, he used to play because his mother could not afford to send lunch. Amma (Mrs. Narayanaswami) called and asked him why he was playing instead of eating lunch. When he told her about my family’s situation, she immediately instructed the staff that henceforth lunch be served to him. Thereafter he was also exempted from paying school fees.
Elango loved going to school and during the summer holidays he would come to school to read in the library and learn music. After school he completed B.Com and worked as an accountant in a leading company. Presently Elango is working in Dubai.
