Jayalakshmi Narayanaswami College for Education

Jayalakshmi Narayanaswami College for Education

  Established: 2009

The GOS Jayalakshmi Narayanaswami College of Education had modest beginnings in 2005. It was started so as to give an opportunity to the High School pass outs of GOS Lady Nye Special Hr Secondary School and the GOS Seva Samajam Children’s Home to train as teachers.Initially it started  by offering a 2 year Diploma Programme in Teachers Training. Due to a higher demand for B.Ed teachers, the Diploma course was phased out and in its place the GOS JN College of Education was founded. The college was affiliated to NCTE in 2008 and started offering a one-year B.Ed. course. The first batch of 100 students was admitted in June 2009. The College is affiliated to TNTEU. In 2015, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited us with a ‘B’ Grade in recognition of the quality of education, faculty and infrastructure provided to our students.

The motto of the college is to provide the best education to aspiring teachers hailing from diverse backgrounds. The College has a full fledged library, auditorium, laboratories for different streams of Science and facilities for indoor and outdoor games. The College takes students on field trips, camps and for other extra-curricular activities in accordance with the syllabus. Our students have participated in numerous sports and cultural events and have won medals.

Many ex-students have cleared the TET and TRB exams and are working as teachers in Government run schools. Most of our graduating students have secured jobs in private schools across Tamil Nadu. Some students have joined the Police department, Forest department and the District revenue department after graduating from our college. Some have gone on to pursue M.Phil, and Doctorate programmes.

Iyyammall had a tough childhood since she lost her father early and her mother her to take care of her and her 11 siblings. She got married at 17 years as soon as she completed her HSC. She wanted to be a teacher but now that wish remained an unfulfilled dream. Soon she had 2 children and was happy being a housewife and mother. It was her husband, Annadurai who motivated her to study further.

She completed her graduation and joined GOS JN College of Education for a B.Ed degree. On completion of her B.Ed she appeared for the Teachers Eligibility Test. She is now a teacher and is thankful to GOS JN College of Education as well as her husband, Annadurai for helping her fulfil her dreams.
